Moses

Moses, receiving the call to serve Exodus 3:11-4:16

The Lord commanded Moses to go to the elders of Israel, and tell them that the Lord had instructed him to lead them out of Egypt. He was also to go to Pharaoh, and tell him to let them go.
It sounds as though Moses was shocked as to the Lord’s choice in leaders. He said,

“O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” (Exodus 4:10)

The Lord, in response, said:

Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.”

As if to say, “Moses, who created you? Don’t you think I know what you are capable of? Do you think I would ask you to do something you couldn’t do? Has it occurred to you that I would help you do what I’ve commanded?”

I think the Lord can get irritated by our short-sightedness, sometimes. Just as we can see the raw potential in our own children, and are frustrated when they can’t see it themselves, or foolishly believe they are alone in their efforts.

We can be this forgetful, or ignorant, or foolish when we face challenges in church callings, as parents, or in any capacity in which we serve the Lord.

It is comforting to know that the God who made you stands ready to strengthen you in your efforts to serve him.
